Math Coach – K-8 School

Responsibilities: The primary role of the K-8 Math Coach is to provide frequent and on-going coaching and feedback to all K-8 lead math teachers.

Specific roles and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following,

  • Supports Implementation of K-8 Academic and Culture Programming Vision: Supports the school-level implementation of the academic and culture programming vision. May facilitate/attend walkthroughs to monitor culture/academic programming as requested by teachers and/or directly by Principal/Deans.  
  • Supports Implementation of K-8 School Improvement Plan: Works in partnership with the Principal/Director and Deans to monitor the implementation of the school improvement plan, including the execution, progress monitoring, and action planning of the vision/goals in the school improvement plan. 
  • Monitors School-Level Implementation of High-Quality Instructional Materials: In partnership with the Superintendent and Director/Dean, regularly observes instruction via academic walkthroughs to monitor the quality of HQIM implementation.  Participates in weekly Academic Coaching Sessions/Meetings with the Superintendent to build their capacity and efficacy as instructional leaders.  
  • Elementary Content Coaching and Professional Learning, STEM:  Serves as the primary coach for all K-4 STEM teachers.  Coordinates with Superintendent, Principal, and Dean of Academics to develop a year-long scope of professional learning for K-4 STEM teachers, leading weekly lesson internalization/STEM-focused Common Planning Time, in alignment to the school/network vision.  Exemplifies expertise as a master teacher via real-time feedback, co-teaching, and/modeling instructional practices.  
  • Direct Service to Scholars: As part of the Instructional Coach role, may provide direct instruction to a small group of scholars as identified through the SPED/MTSS process in partnership with the K-8 Principal and School Leadership Team.
  • Active Member of School Improvement Team: Attends School Improvement Team meetings. 

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree and current teaching certification,
    • Prior math teaching experience with measurable results,
    • Experience and comfort with Eureka/Eureka Math2 curriculum, 
    • Familiarity with Teach Like a Champion, and other effective instructional practices for instructional delivery and classroom management, 
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication in English
  • Preferred:
    • 3+ years of experience as a teacher with proven track record of success in academic outcomes and classroom management,
    • Previous experience coaching and/or managing other adults in a school setting,
    • Strong personal organizational systems, particularly pertaining to time and task management 
    • Strong professional development planning skills that prioritize teacher practice and feedback,
    • Special Education or Multilingual Learner certification or endorsements are a plus, 
    • Fluency in a language than English is preferred

Responsibilities:  The primary role of a Community Teacher is to provide coverage for when teachers and team members are out of the building.  This staff member is an integral part of the educational team by providing the support that teachers and students need as requested by the Director/Dean of Academic Operations. 

Specific roles and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following,

  • Review and facilitate substitute lessons and provide instruction in the Classroom (K-8 and Enrichment)
  • Support school-wide needs as assigned and identified by the Director/Dean of Academic Operations 
  • Maintain collaborative and professional communication with educators and the broader school community
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning scholars and families
  • Provide additional scholar specific supports and assistance as outlined in their IEP

 

Qualifications : The RI Department of Education does not certify individual teacher assistants, but sets minimum qualifications that school districts must follow in hiring TAs. Minimum qualifications as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Education includes, 

  • Be of good character;
  • Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (associates and/or bachelors degree is preferred)
  • All applicants must Meet the RI Paraprofessional Standards (Education and certification) or be willing to complete the requirements within 1 year of employment.
  • Hold or be able to attain Safety Care Certification within 1 year of employment, if applicable 
  • Associates degree in education or related field preferred but not required.  All applicants must hold a high school Diploma or GED
  • Bilingual candidates preferred

● Maintain collaboration and professional communication with both general and special education teachers to ensure daily behavior and academic supports and to maximize instructional time
● Maintain confidentiality of information concerning scholars and families
● Monitor and support the use of special modifications or accommodations for scholars with disabilities
● Work with scholars individually or in small groups to reinforce content initially introduced by the teacher
● Assist teachers with both instructional and non-instructional related tasks including timely completion of any assigned administrative or operational tasks
● Maintain Safety Care Certification, if applicable
● Support school-wide needs as assigned and identified by the Principal or designee
● Provide additional scholar-specific supports and assistance as outlined in their IEP

The School Nurse Position

RISE Prep Mayoral Academy knows that the health and safety of our scholars and our school community is paramount to learning. RISE Prep is hiring a full time school nurse teacher for the 2024-25 school year.

Responsibilities:

  • Assumes a leadership role in promoting the health and safety of the RISE Prep Mayoral Academy scholars through skilled nursing care, health education, health counseling, advocacy, and accessing community resources.
  • Actively collaborates with families, teachers, administrators, and other members of the educational team in order to maximize the learning potential of scholars.
  • Assesses the health status of scholars and refers scholars and families to appropriate community and medical resources. 
  • Conducts school programs of immunizations, physical examinations, and screenings as directed by the RI Department of Health and RI Department of Education.
  • Develops and coordinates safe and appropriate Individual Emergency Action Plans for students with special health care needs. 
  • Assumes a leadership role in managing, directing and performing first aid and emergency care and care of scholars with chronic health conditions.
  • Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and immunizations.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures of the RI Department of Health Rules and Regulations for School Health Programs and RISE Prep Mayoral Academy Policies and Procedures. 
  •  Maintains up-to-date confidential cumulative health records on each scholar using the SNAP system.
  • Teaches health education courses in partnership with Physical Education staff for the improvement of health by teaching scholars to become more informed health consumers and to assume greater responsibility for their own health. 
  • Provides age-appropriate health counseling with the goal of responsible decision making. 
  • Administers and/or supervises the administration of prescription medication to scholars.
  • Observes scholars on a regular basis to detect health needs and provides treatments as per standards and protocols using the Nursing Process.
  • Communication with families of scholars who are sick or injured throughout the day if warranted.
  • Morning attendance calls to ensure the health of all scholars who are absent that day.
  • Keeping track of inventory in Nursing Office, ensuring necessary supplies are in stock and if not, reaching out to the  Director of Operations obtain supplies
  • Check AED monthly to ensure it is working
  • Contacting families over the summer to ensure all scholars are in compliance with immunizations/physicals before starting the first day of the school year. 
  • Providing an annual inservice to all staff on bloodborne pathogens, epipens and more
  • Covering other RISE Prep Mayoral Schools as needed

* The above list is not an all-inclusive list of duties. You will be expected to perform various tasks as required by the School Nurse Supervisor/Principal. As RISE Prep grows so too may your duties.
