How are scholars selected?
Enrollment is based on a random, public lottery. Each year, we welcome a new class of kindergarten scholars. The number of open seats for 1st-11th grade will depend on the number of current scholars who return next year.
Who is eligible to apply?
Children residing in Woonsocket, North Smithfield, and Burrillville are welcome to apply for RISE Prep Lower Academy for grades K-8. Children residing in Woonsocket and Burrillville are welcome to apply for RISE Prep Upper Academy for 9th -11th.
RISE Prep, like all charter schools in Rhode Island, is a FREE PUBLIC school that is open to ALL students, regardless of prior academic achievement, special education need, or primary language
How do I apply to enroll my child?
To apply for your child’s name to be entered into the lottery for the 2026-27 school year, please click on the “Apply Online” link at the top of this page to access the online enrollment application between Tuesday, November 18, 2025 and Wednesday, March 18, 2026
When is the lottery? How do I know my child's lottery results?
The lottery for all RI charter schools will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. You will receive an email with your child’s results after the lottery is held
How are charter schools funded in Rhode Island?
Charter schools in Rhode Island, like all public schools, receive state and local funding based on specific formulas. They can also get federal funds, including money from Title programs, IDEA, and Medicaid.
